Terrestrial Ecotoxicity

Plant protection products such as herbicides, plant growth regulators and rodenticides are a major component of modern agriculture. The substances are necessary to inhibit pests and increase harvest yields. However, the effects on the ecosystem and non-target organisms such as beneficials have to be monitored closely to prevent harm. Soil- and leaf-inhabitating organisms have to be taken into account as well as pollinators and other arthropods. Terrestrial ecotoxicity assessment is also part of chemical and biocide registration dossiers. In order to fully and reliably characterize your product, Noack Lab offers a broad range of GLP studies on various terrestrial organisms.

Basic studies are short-term studies that focus mainly on the acute effects of substances on organisms. We can perform these tests with a variety of organisms such as a range of non-target arthropods, honeybees, bumblebees, terrestrial plants, microorganisms and earthworms.
Higher tier studies focus on long-term effects of substances including reproduction, hatching and development. Reproduction studies of earthworms, honeybees, honeybee larvae and various beneficial non-target arthropods are available at Noack Lab.

Terrestrial ecotoxicity not only refers to organisms in soil or on plants but also to the inhabitants of aquatic sediments. The assessment of effects on sediment organisms is therefore a vital part of each substance characterization. We address this need by offering different GLP study types with organisms such as midges, oligochaetes, nematodes, plants and invertebrates.

An essential part of PBT assessment of substances is the bioaccumulative potential, e. g. the tendency of the substance to accumulate in an organisms. Bioaccumulation studies in earthworms, enchytraeids and sediment oligochaetes are part of our portfolio. For more details, please refer to the Environmental Fate section.

If necessary, the studies are closely monitored with modern analytical equipment and expertise. Maintaining close contact we keep you updated about your study progress anytime.
